Specialty Dog Training Classes – A class for every dog!
ROOT Dog Training strives to give each team the best training class environment and personalized attention in every class. Most of our classes are limited to 8 dog teams, and some classes are even less.
All classes are 6 weeks and 50 minutes long.
All ROOT Dog Training classes are in a dog friendly, positive training environment with a focus on clicker training. The use of punishment and aversive collars such as choke, prong, pinch or shock/e-collars is not permitted in any of ROOTʼs classes.
The Problem Dog
FOCUS Unleashed
   Do you have a dog that gets too excited at trials?
   Do you have a dog that shuts down due to stress?
   Do you have a young dog you're looking to start in a mentally healthy way for competition? Then this is your class.  In this class we will be taking the teachings of Leslie McDevitt and her book
Control Unleashed and putting them into effect to set you and your dog up to be a successful team no matter what your path is going to be.  Also can be used for graduates of RAD class.
Class is limited to 6 dogs. No overly Reactive or Aggressive dogs (Please see RAD class instead)

RAD - Reactive Aggressive Dog Class
   Does  your dog bark and lunge at every other dog you pass on walks?
   Do you  just want to have a peaceful walk around your neighborhood? Then this is  the course for you.
You will learn to better read your dog and to help your dog learn to make  better choices in stressful situations. You and your dog will gain  confidence in handling situations that used to make your dog react  aggressively.The course is structured around clicker training fundamentals based on the works Click to Calm by Emma Parsons, and Controlled Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt. Only reward-based motivational and positive training methods are used.
   No choke, prong, pinch or physical corrections will be permitted.
   Two handlers per dog is strongly recommended. Maximum number of dogs is 5.

Howliday Helper - A Canine Manners Class
   Do  you live in fear of fido knocking over old Aunt Alice?
   Do you have  visions of your turkey only being enjoyed by your dog?
   Do you want your  dog on the nice list?  Now is the perfect time to start working on the  skills to make your holiday season a stress-free time for you, your dog,  and your guests. In Howliday Helper - A Canine Manners Class we will  work on door manners, polite greeting, go to your bed, leave it and even  a trick or two to impress your guests.

A Different Approach to Beyond the Basics
FLEX - Fitness, Learning, Enrichment, Exercise - Program
   Do you have a shy dog who can use help coming out of their shell?
   Are you looking for ways to cross train your competition dog?
   Maybe you have an older dog that would like some training fun?
The FLEX program is designed for you & your dog to FLEX your muscles and take life to the next level. No matter if life brings you to compete in obedience, conformation, agility, freestyle or any other  sport (channel surfing included), your dog needs to be physically fit  and self aware. In class we work on body awareness and confidence  building games using exercise equipment like peanuts, balance boards, and just healthy stretching. These training games challenge your dog  both mentally and physically and are a great foundation to a successful relationship. This course is open to dogs of all ages and even puppies are encourage to attend.
***Due to the physical and mental demands for your dog FLEX class is only 40 minutes long***

Wags and Love - Therapy Dog Class
Have you ever wanted to share your dogs love with others? 
Are you interested in join the K9 Reading Buddies with your dog?
In this class we will work on skills to help your dog be the best therapy dog he can be!  We will work visiting skills in various situations.  Some of the skills will be paws up, targeting, mat relaxation, a great leave it and even some tricks to impress the people you are visiting.

Fido & Friends - Kids & Canine Class
Do you have a budding dog trainer at home? 
Did your child promise to help with the dog but needs help knowing how? 
If so then this class is for your child!  This class we will mix training fun with dog related projects.  Your child will learn the responsibility with your dog, how to behave around all dogs, plus your dog will learn a few tricks, and some great obedience skills.  The first week is without dogs. 
** Class is for kids 9 and older.  Children 13 or younger must have an adult present during class.**

Trick Top Shape – From Nose to Toes to Tails!
   Is  your dog the class clown? In Trick Top Shape class we can channel that  silliness into trick you can show off! Do you want to do therapy dog  work with your dog and need some entertainment for the people you visit? Maybe you always wanted to learn more about clicker training. If so Trick Top Shape is just the class for you and your dog.
 
In this class we will be using clicker training and shaping to train a wide variety of tricks. This is a great
class  for anyone wanting to learn more about shaping or strengthen their  clicker training skills. Also great for anyone looking for a new way to  have fun with their dog or give confidence to a shy dog!  Class is open to all age & skill level dogs.
Next Class will begin Fall of 2012.

GAMES Class
In GAMES class come and see how much FUN learning can be for you & your dog! We will use a variety of GAMES to teach and hone obedience skills. Class will be focused on impulse control and basic obedience.
The GAMES will teach to basic skills like fast, reliable sits & downs, quick recalls, and solid stays.There will be crate games, mat games, Kay Laurence style learning games to teach impulse control.
Class is open to all age & skill level dogs. No overly Reactive or Aggressive dogs.

OUTDOOR Fun
Cafe Canine
   Do you have a dog who is well behaved at home but in his public persona is something to be desired? Then Cafe Canine class will fill your training gap!  This class teaches your dog to listen reliability in real life situations. In addition to basic obedience training your dog will get the always needed socialization by getting them comfortable around a variety of sights and sounds, It puts previously learned behaviors to practical application by training around a variety of distractions.
Each week class will meet in a different location in and around Highwood, IL. This class is for clients looking beyond Good Dog School skills for their dog. Dogs need to have a reliable sit and some loose leash walking and not be overly reactive to people or dogs to participate.

Dog Park Pros
Do you have a dog that loves the dog park but you donʼt love their listen skills or lack there of at the dog park? Then this is the class for you. We will work on polite walking to and from the park, recalls while at the park, polite entrance to the park, leave it, and a distance sit and stay. In addition to training we will talk about dog body language and safety measures to make the most fun out of your dog beach experience. Some
weeks class will meet at one of the local dog parks. You may need to buy a day pass for the park if you donʼt have annual pass.
To enjoy a whole season of a being the envy of the dog park.
